From the President...
May, 2009
Welcome to the new Wharton Club of Colorado! Amazingly, we are nearly 700 strong in our state, and it is our hope that this alumni club will help us all to connect, reconnect and build a cohesive Wharton community in the Rockies.
About a year ago, an online survey was conducted to assess interest in a “Wharton-only” alumni club in our area. Response was overwhelmingly positive, and we received many suggestions for focused networking opportunities and speaker panels. So while we will now be a separate entity from the PennWharton Club, (which now becomes the Penn Club of Colorado), the two clubs will continue to interface. This separation allows both alumni clubs to cater more specifically to their individual alumni groups, but to also capitalize on the bigger network.
And welcome to the Wharton Club of Colorado website! This new website is officially connected to and part of the Wharton main database system - a new global network called Wharton Connect. This creates a direct link to the Wharton database and results in our alumni managing one user profile. In addition, this new site is a great repository of information on what is going on in the greater Denver area with regard to Wharton alumni events, the Denver Business Series, local and Wharton-specific RSS feeds, and for members, access to the Colorado alumni database.
Of course, your participation is key to our community's success. Membership dues in particular provide the financial support our community needs to host events and provide membership services each year. Having alumni join as Club members makes a real difference. As a special introductory offer, membership is only $25 for the first year. Membership dues will increase to $50 per year in January, 2010. Everything we do depends on alumni - we urge you to support the club and join today!
Finally, an enormous amount of volunteer effort has gone into creating the Club and this website over the last several months, and this will continue as we add new features in the coming weeks. Your support, patience, and understanding are appreciated as we work out the inevitable kinks.
We look forward to creating, with your help and participation, a local Wharton alumni community which provides business and social networking, speakers and seminars, and professional development.
Best regards,
Lauren Mitchell Sveen, WG90
