Colorado's Governor's Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1908 as a private residence for Colorado real estate magnate Walter Chessman's widow and daughter. Claude Boettcher purchased the mansion in 1923. Boettcher was the head of a financial empire that eventually included Great Western Sugar, livestock, Ideal Cement, potash, steel, securities, utilities, and transportation. Boettcher was famous for his lavish parties which included President Dwight D. Eisenhower and many of the Nation's top dignitaries. The Boettcher Foundation donated the house to the State to serve as the Governor's residence.
